Frequently Asked Questions
FloridaFlorida, of course, is known for many things: the Everglades;
the sun, sand, and surf that make up Florida`s 1500 kilometers of beaches; the
Florida Keys; South Beach, the trendiest place in the world at the moment; and,
oh yes, Disney World. But there is much more.
WeatherFlorida`s nickname `The Sunshine State` is not without merit.
Probably the state`s greatest natural resource is its climate. Winter are mild
(although periodic bouts of cold weather are not unknown) and the summers are
cooking. As with all things good, there has to be a downside. Hurricanes,
lightning and Tornadoes are unfortunately more weather phenomena for which
Florida is famous. April, May and June are considered the peak seasons for
tornadoes with the more severe occurring in the Panhandle.
Getting Around The best way to experience Florida is probably by car.
The state is a little too big for cycling, and probably too dangerous as well.
There is a pretty good rail service and buses connect the main cities. If
travelling by car, always carry some change with you. Florida is notorious for
its Tolls, which, with the exception of Florida`s Turnpike will require you to
have a couple of quarters and/or dollar bills on you. You can buy Sun-passes
from most gas stations which allow you to prepay a lot of the tolls.
